‘Themed’ hotels can sometimes be a bit cheesy. This ‘Titanic’ creation has authenticity on its side though. ’30 James Street’, is the former head office of the White Star shipping line. Original features such as the grand booking hall have been sympathetically woven into the design. So too have various rooms that have had their Edwardian splendour restored and enhanced to echo high-class cabins. Other aspects are pastiche. The penthouse restaurants have a promenade deck, and the swimming pool is a replica of the ships. Ultimately the Titanic did luxury, so a cross-over into a hotel needn’t be an inappropriate fit

For some it might be perfectly feasible to privately drive, whereas others might choose to fly to Liverpool or Manchester. If coming from London it might be possible to use the railway to Manchester albeit we’d probably advise that you complete the final leg on a managed road transport rather than taking the train onward. If you decide to arrive in Manchester and transfer by road it’s 44 miles (75 mins)
Royal Birkdale is 18miles (45 mins) from Liverpool
If you choose to stay in Southport it is 2 miles (5 mins)
Unless staying in Southport, Birkdale will likely require an all-day transport hire
Royal Birkdale is almost unique in having hosted the Open Championship, Ryder Cup, and Walker Cup (only Muirfield and Lytham can lay similar claims). It’s widely regarded as being England’s premier links golf course and few commentators will give you a contrary view. The course is characterised by a series of high dunes more commonly associated with Ireland. The sixth is a notoriously difficult par 4, but course really comes to life in the stretch between the tenth and thirteenth, the last in this sequence now made famous by Jordan Speith. The two closing holes will also keep you honest to the finish

There’s probably little point trying to tip-toe around it. We know that golf day corporate hospitality often overflows into the evening, and whereas perhaps people are reluctant to try and ‘sell this’ it remains something of an unspoken consideration. Anyone familiar with Liverpool knows that its one of the UK’s most lively and atmospheric cities
The non-golfer also has an array of riches to occupy themselves, including the iconic waterfront, the three graces, and ‘ferry cross the Mersey’. Culture vultures have the Tate Modern, and Walker Gallery, Add in the Albert Dock, the ‘battle of the Atlantic museum’, two cathedrals, one of the biggest football clubs in the world to visit, and that’s before we even look at the Beatles links. The city of Liverpool is a massive argument in favour of choosing Birkdale

The Magical Mystery Tour is the only Beatles tour that finishes at Mathew Street, home of The Cavern and steeped in Beatles heritage.
The likelihood however is that an official Beatles tour is only going to work for non-golfers because of timings. We might have some scope with a medium sized group to lay one on during a summers evening
